About the charity

The Bungalow Youth Project is managed and supported by Buckfastleigh Community Development Project (Trust), a registered charity (No. 1101187). The charity exists to support the wellbeing, inclusion, and empowerment of local people through community-led projects and services. While the Bungalow Youth Project operates with its own strategic plan, dedicated team, and youth-focused objectives, it is part of a broader charitable mission to empower local people and create change in Buckfastleigh.  The Trust provides oversight, governance, and financial management.

As outlined in our constitution, the charity’s charitable objects are:

“To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Buckfastleigh and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race, or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.”

The Bungalow Youth Project delivers directly on these aims by providing a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for young people to connect with one another, build confidence and skills, and take the lead in shaping their own community. From youth-led sessions and creative projects to leadership training and social action, the Bungalow is a living example of the Trust’s mission in action.

Charity Governance

The Trust is led by a board of volunteer trustees who bring experience in youth work, safeguarding, finance, education, the arts, and community development. They ensure that both the charity and the Bungalow remain accountable, financially secure, and mission focused.

The charity also supports other community-facing work and continues to build partnerships that reflect the strengths and aspirations of Buckfastleigh and surrounding areas.

Our trustees

Our Board of Trustees provides vital leadership, governance, and guidance to ensure that the Bungalow Youth Project remains rooted in its mission, financially sound, and responsive to the needs of local young people. Each trustee brings their own unique expertise—from youth work and safeguarding to education, arts, and community development. Together, they volunteer their time and insight to help steer the charity behind the Bungalow, offering strategic oversight while championing the values of inclusion, empowerment, and youth voice.
